The Director
This scheme of work and 6 lesson plans are designed to be used with ‘Forty short plays: Plays and sketches for the classroom which can be bought from here
but can be used with any set of short scripts, for example free scripts available here!
The scheme encourages students to build upon their knowledge of creating a character by now thinking about using stage directions and taking own the perspective of the director.
Included are also a sheet which highlights the role of the director and stage directions, as well as suggested scripts to use.
Each lesson in this 6 lesson plan also includes a full break down of practical exercises and activities, to aid their students learning.
Full scheme of work
Lesson Objectives & Activities:
Lesson 1: To introduce the role of the director and stage directions. Students will work within different groups in this unit and practice being a director. Activities - Warm-up Introduction of the role of the director. Stage direction exercise introduction of mini scripts.
Lesson 2: To prepare pupils for blocking a mini script and eventually perform using a director. Activities -Warm-up Rehearsal of mini script using a director.
Lesson 3: To develop director skills. To rehearse a mini script. To perform script. Activities - Warm-up. Rehearsal of mini script using director. Performance of script.
Lesson 4: To work in a new group. To take instruction from a different director. Activities - Warm up Introduction of a new mini script this time for assessment. New groups with a different director. Explanation of director interview.
Lesson 5: To rehearse their scene with their director. Director to consider the audience. Activities - Rehearsal and dress rehearsal of their performance pieces.
Lesson 6: To perform a piece of scripted work. To critically evaluate the work seen. To have a director interview. Activities - All groups to perform their performances. Teacher to assess level of individual performance. Director to be interviewed.
