Physical Theatre and Mime
This scheme of work and 6 lesson plans are designed to expand on students knowledge of Physical Theatre.
The scheme encourages students to explore the use of physicality and physical theatre, combining it with music to add emotion to the action, with new explorative physical activities.
Included are also are suggestions for music tracks to use alongside the physical activities.
Each lesson in this 6 lesson plan also includes a full break down of practical exercises and activities, to aid students learning.
Full scheme of work
Lesson Objectives & Activities:
Lesson 1: To start to explore how sound can be used in performance. Activities - Warm up Recap of soundscapes. Participate in a machine circle to represent different themes. Create a spontaneous improvisation to music.
Lesson 2: To choose an appropriate track for their mimed improvisation. To think about how different pieces of music makes them feel or what it makes them think of. Activities - Warm up. Students will listen to the tracks brought in and then vote on which one they would like to use. Note down how each piece of music makes them feel.
Lesson 3: To plan their mimed improvisation to music. Activities - Warm-up Listen to the track and decide and plan their improvisation. Analyse the lyrics to decide if these could form the basis of their improvisation.
Lesson 4: To combine silent skills in order to portray a mimed improvisation. To rehearse their improvisation. Activities - Rehearsal considering, body language, facial expression and movement appropriate to the character and mood of the music. Feedback.
Lesson 5: To rehearse their scene being mindful of the skills needed for successful portrayal. Activities - Warm-up Rehearsal of their planned improvisation. Performance to peers for feedback.
Lesson 6: To perform improvised performance to peers for teacher assessment. Activities - Warm-up. Performance of scenes to peers. Peer evaluation Teacher assessment.
